Getting Involved
User Testing Opportunity
Our Co-Design Team recognise the importance of peer support for minority ethnic groups where cultural differences in the way you experience or talk about lung health, or the way it affects your life make it important to connect with people with a lung condition from your own community.

Below are opportunities that we would like to invite you to be a part of.

Peer Support Groups

Info: Asthma + Lung UK (research partner of UPTURN) offers various COPD support groups, including in-person and online options like COPD support, singing, harmonica, chair-based zumba, and mindfulness.
Purpose: We aim to explore if existing groups can support minority ethnic communities or if new, more inclusive groups are needed.
Who: Adults from minority ethnic communities with COPD/ other lung conditions interested in joining a peer support group to help manage their lung condition.

Activity:
-
Try out our COPD support group on Thursday, 10th April, 12pm – 1pm, online.
-
For other lung conditions, join an activity-based group of your choice in March or April.
-
Provide feedback via a 20-30 minute video call on 10th or 11th April. You will need to keep your
camera on, as body language and facial expressions are important part of feedback.
Reward: Receive a £60 voucher for participating in both the group and feedback call.
PR Checklist Preparation

Info: 1 in 3 people do not attend their Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) assessment. Our intervention aims to help them understand PR and feel motivated to attend. The other 2 in 3 may not need much support, so this checklist is for them.

Who: Black or South Asian adults, with or without a lung condition.

Activity:
-
Provide feedback on the wording and examples in a checklist for preparing for PR appointments.
-
Participate in a 20-30 minute discussion over Zoom or Teams.
-
Share your thoughts as you read through the document.
-
You will need to keep your camera on, as body language and facial expressions are important
part of feedback.
Timing: Schedule a convenient time between 24th March and 11th April.

Reward: Receive a £10 voucher for your participation.
Supporting Patients with Language Barriers

Info: We aim to support patients with language barriers by providing information in their own language. Sometimes referral forms miss this info, so we're taking steps to ensure everyone gets the support they need.

Who: Adults who speak little or no English, needing an interpreter for health services. Plus a friend or family member to help interpret feedback (or we can arrange a professional interpreter).

Activity:
-
Give feedback on an English-language information pack for patients with language barriers.
-
Participate in a 30-45 minute discussion over Zoom or Teams, with an option of attending a physical discussion (contact us for more information).
-
Review the document during the call and share your thoughts.
-
You will need to keep your camera on, as body language and facial expressions are important

Reward: Receive a £25 voucher each for you and your interpreter (£50 per pair).
